Restored Elegance—Where We Stayed in Boston

For this visit my friend and I opted to stay at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza five blocks from Amtrak’s Back Bay Station, an easy direct route on Stuart Street and one block in from the Boston Public Garden.  It was the first time for both of us at this hotel, and we were very pleased.

The hotel was recently renovated.  While we did not use any of the amenities, there are a Lynx Fitness Club, Fed Ex office and a Starbucks occupying the commercial spaces on the ground floor.

For history buffs it opened in 1927 and was known as the Statler Hotel for 50 years. At the time it was the 8th largest hotel in the world with 1,300 rooms! According to their history page, all but 2 U.S. presidents have stayed there. That information probably has to be updated. :)

The lobby has an open bar and restaurant with comfortable seating and soft lighting.  I was able to drive my scooter up to a table but there was room to park it next to the table out of the way so I transitioned to a chair when we dined.

Their wheelchair accessible room, which I booked, was more than adequate.  I was able to park the scooter just inside the door and charge it from that location.  The bathroom had a walk-in shower with handrails and handrails at the toilet (although not a surround handrail so if that is something you need, this room might not be right for you).  The room came with a king-size bed, 55” TV, desk, side chair, refrigerator, and a coffee pot.  I wasn’t too far from the elevator although with the scooter it didn’t matter.  The rate for each night was about $140 plus taxes etc., but we were told later in the spring it goes to $600 a night!

Elevators in the hotel lobby—spacious and plenty of them

Please accept my apologies. The pictures you need, I failed to take. But the link to the rooms does have one picture of the handicapped bathroom, which looks exactly like the bathroom I had. And the room was large enough to move a wheelchair around the bed to the bathroom.
