OMG, what a destination. Located one block from the Apollo Theatre on West 125th Street, the Studio Museum of Harlem sits inside a handsome, brand new, six-story building designed for showcasing the work of black artists from around the world.
Beautifully curated.
Just off the large elevator is the central staircase.
How to Get There:
Subway: The museum sits right in the middle of multiple subway lines with accessible stations on 125th. On the West Side, you can use the A, B, C, D trains at 125th and then take any bus going east along 125th. On the East side, take either the 4, 5, or 6 trains to 125th and Lexington and take any bus going west. If it’s a nice day and you’ve got enough battery, the ride either way is three to four blocks with lots of shops and food options.
Bus: Coming from West 96th Street, I got on the M10 at 97th and Central Park West. It took about 10 minutes from there dropping me at 125th and Frederick Douglas Blvd. I rode my scooter the one block to the Museum. Here again, multiple buses travel 125th Street and they all stop at either end of the block.
Restrooms:
Since the building is brandnew, the restrooms are among the most accessible you will find in a public building in NYC. We found restrooms on every floor. Wheelchair accessible, All Gender etc. Inside there is plenty of room for a scooter or wheelchair, with lots of grab bars and long sinks with automated water and soap dispencers.

Charging:
If you find you need a charge, outlets can be found in the staircase, which is also used for seating. The length of the cord for my charger was enough if I parked my scooter at the base of the stairs. If you need help, the staff is very accommodating.
